We are operating our businesses in a new digital world which is dominated by video conferencing, stay at home orders, and clients that are consumed by FEAR.  I believe organizations that are able to “Smash the Box,” and reinvent themselves, will be the ones that survive and thrive in 2020 and beyond.

“Smash the Box” at the workplace by asking these three questions which are the catalyst to creativity, innovation, flexibility, and pivoting:

  • Game Changing “Why” Questions- “Why” questions challenge fundamental assumptions, break patterns and routines, and challenge the fixed mindset.
  • Imagining Alternative Possibilities/ “What If”- “What If” questions allow for idea generation, engage our imagination, and plant the seeds for the next great innovation, service, or product.
  • The Action Stage of Inquiry/ “How”- “How” questions are about execution and implementation by placing our new found ideas, plans, or strategies into practice.

Recently, my wife and I “Smashed the Box” at our acting studio by asking these three questions:

“Smash the Box” at the workplace example:

Broadway2LA Acting Studio/ Columbus, Ohio/ April 2020- As a company we “Smashed the Box” by changing our spring demo reel classes and summer acting camps to the online format- virtual. We asked ourselves “Why” do all of our classes have to be in person, “What If” we had virtual classes, and “How” do we make this happen?

If you want a free “SMASH THE BOX” Creative Leadership Consultation send me a message and we can get one scheduled. As a team we will idea generate by asking these three questions, improvise, and develop a plan to put these ideas into practice for your organization.  I will not sell you anything, rather, this is my way to give back during this pandemic.
