Orville Wright was out on the plains of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina trying to get a pile of metal, bolts, and wings up into the air and fly. He didn’t ask for anyone permission, wait to get a certification, or receive a diploma, he just did it. His mindset which was about experimentation, exploration, and taking risks allowed him to do the impossible, fly.
I tried to take on Orville Wright’s mindset when I became a motivational speaker. People always ask me how do you become a motivational speaker- can you take classes, seminars, certifications etc. The answer to all those questions is yes, however, you can also be like Orville Wright did and just do it.
I have a passion for speaking, I feel blessed to have an opportunity to motivate and inspire individuals and be a part of their journey in life. My first speaking gig was a keynote address on creative leadership where I used principles from my acting studio and created a one hour keynote address. I didn’t know exactly what I was doing or how it turned out, however, I didn’t let fear keep me from trying.
Your adventure may not be flying a plane or motivational speaking, however, your passions and quest for life are within you and only you know what they are. More importantly, allow yourself to pursue them without asking for permission, or seeking a piece of paper that gives you the validation to try something new and exciting. We live in a time where everything must be planned out, certified, double checked, and this endless need for approval, validation impedes our ability to create and innovate. Rather than waiting for approval, dive in and begin your next adventure.
