Operating outside the box of life is all about trying something different. Yes, it may or may not work, but that is what creativity is all about. The enemy of creativity is patterns and routines, and when we get stuck in them, we resist change and struggle with fear.
Here are some examples:
A real estate agent that relies on the MLS/ Craigslist for marketing isn’t trying something different. He/she is doing what most other agents do, nothing different. However, the real estate agent that calls friends and family members, has private showings, and places ads on park benches is trying something different. And that is the agent you and I want to work for us.
A teacher that relies on specific lesson plans, handouts and busy work for his/ her students isn’t trying something different. He/she is doing what most other teachers do, following a routine, nothing different. However, the teacher that engages their students with activities and games throughout the school day (As a supplement to the curriculum) is trying something different. And that is the teacher you and I want our child to be with.
A mom/ dad that gets up, goes to work, comes home and goes to bed isn’t trying something different. He/ she is doing what most parents do, nothing different. However, the parent that goes dirt bike riding (Or any crazy activity you can think of) with his/ her child is doing something different. And that is the parent the child will create memories with.
Regardless of our occupation, we can all be that real estate agent, teacher or parent if we break our patterns and routines and try something different.
Want to not only think outside the box… but SMASH it?
